Accessibility at FAT Chips

Before reading further, if you have any issue with accessing any portion of our website, please reach us immediately at hello@eatfatchips.com and we will make every effort to accommodate your needs. We want all people who are interested to enjoy our product and their experience with our business!

If that link does not work in your browser, our address is hello, at eatfatchips dot com.

FAT Chips is made by a small team in San Diego, and we want everyone to be able to buy our chips, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology.

What we are working toward

We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This is the standard most commonly used to judge whether a website is usable by people with disabilities.

Where we currently stand

For the content we build and control, we hold eatfatchips.com to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and have found no outstanding issues. We have tested the site with a screen reader, fixed everything that testing and our code review turned up, and we check our own pages against that standard deliberately rather than hoping for the best.

Some of what you see here is not ours. The Instagram feed on our homepage and the card-entry fields at checkout are served by Instagram and Stripe. We have no reason to think either falls short. Both are large teams with their own accessibility work. But we do not control that code, it can change without notice, and we would rather tell you that than imply an assurance we are not in a position to give.

We are also a small team rather than accessibility specialists, and we have not had an external audit. So we describe the site as substantially conformant: we know of nothing outstanding, and we are not going to claim we have found everything.

Again, if you find any issue with navigation or access to our website, please contact us at hello@eatfatchips.com so we can address the technical issues and serve you directly if appropriate.

Where gaps are most likely

As of 1 September 2026, if something on this site does not work for you, these are the places we would look first:

  • Embedded third-party content. The Instagram feed and Stripe's card fields, as above.
  • Pages we visit less often. Our testing has concentrated on the paths most people use: the shop, a product page, the cart and checkout. Quieter corners of the site have had less attention.
  • Anything we simply have not thought of. We are not specialists, and no external specialist has reviewed this site yet.

What we have recently fixed

  • Errors at checkout, including a declined card, are now announced to screen readers instead of appearing only on screen. Previously a declined card changed nothing that a screen reader could detect.
  • Order confirmation is announced when it arrives, rather than only appearing.
  • Added a "skip to main content" link on every page, so keyboard users can bypass the navigation instead of tabbing through it every time.
  • The cart panel now behaves properly as a dialog: focus moves into it, stays inside it, Escape closes it, and focus returns to where you were.
  • Fixed links and images that had no description for screen readers.
  • Every map on the Find Us page now names its own location, instead of all 51 being announced as "Map".
  • Every page now has a heading structure a screen reader can navigate by.
  • Buttons and links now show a visible focus outline when you tab to them.

How we test

We evaluate this site ourselves: automated checks across the main pages, manual review of the code, and testing with a screen reader. We have not yet had a formal audit by an external accessibility specialist, or testing with people who use assistive technology daily, which catches things that self-testing does not.

Tell us when we get it wrong

As above: hello@eatfatchips.com. We would rather hear about it than not, and it is the fastest way for us to fix it.

We aim to respond as soon as possible. It is the two of us reading that mailbox, so a message saying "I need help" gets a person, not a queue. It helps if you can tell us the page you were on and what happened, but do not let that stop you writing.

And if you would like to place an order and the website is in your way, email us and we will take your order directly. You do not need to battle a website to buy a bag of chips. We are here to help!
